Set within the picturesque Biggarsberg area of Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, between Ladysmith and Newcastle, this enchanting thatched cottage sits gracefully on stilts above the glistening waters of the dam, accessed only from the shore by a wooden walkway.
Two of the bedrooms are located on the upper level and have en-suite bathrooms.
The third bedroom is located on the ground floor and has a bathroom directly next to it.
There is an additional single bed (suitable for a child or young adult) situated on the mezzanine.
The main bedroom, situated on the upper level has its own private balcony with views across the dam and surrounding farmland. It has a queen bed with shower, basin and toilet.
The second bedroom is also situated on the upper level with views of the surrounding mountains. It has twin beds and a bath, basin and toilet.
The third bedroom is on the ground floor with views of the mountains and offers an amazing feeling of floating on water. It has twin beds which can be joined to form a double bed. It is not en-suite but has a bathroom with shower, basin and toilet situated directly next to it.
There is a single bed situated on the mezzanine level which is suitable for a child or teenager.
Snuggle up by the crackling fireplace in the lounge on chilly winter evenings, while you get lost in the pages of an enthralling book.
The kitchen, overlooking the lounge, is fully equipped, allowing you to easily whip up delectable meals. Dine al fresco on the covered balcony, which is enclosed with sliding/folding windows, allowing you to relish the best of both indoor and outdoor experiences.
Equipped with a gas/electric stove and fridge, the cottage ensures convenience and modern comforts. Powered by Eskom and back-up generator, the cottage provides ample lighting and power points.
Fish the dam for Bass, Rainbow & Brown Trout, hike up into hill and view the incredible Bushman paintings, take in some bird watching or just relax on the Boma deck with sundowners…
The surrounding areas are full of historical sites of interest.
Sections of the accommodation are accessed via stairs, and may not be suitable for young children, the elderly, or guests with disabilities.
Please note, there is an 8km gravel road leading off the N11 to the accommodation. Guests are encouraged to enquire about the condition of the road, before arrival, as it could be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Travel along the N11 towards Newcastle for more or less 40km. Take the 2nd Collingpass turnoff. Turn left on to a gravel road, travel for 8km along this road, turn right at the Thatcher’s sign.
Take the N11 towards Ladysmith for more or less 60km and take the 1st Collingpass gravel road turnoff on your right hand side. Travel for 8km along this road, turn right at the Thatcher’s sign.
